Like most creators of new or improved products, Mrs. Galvan conceived of "The Silvermate" as a result of personal experience and the need for such a product. Mrs. Galvan believed there had to be a way to keep a knife and fork readily available, yet prevent them from resting on a dirty restaurant tabletop.

She reasoned that if a small holder could be produced with a molded top to accommodate a knife and fork, it would keep utensils clean while not in use, yet right at a user's fingertips when needed.  To fulfill this need, Mrs. Galvan invented "The Silvermate". "Even though I have been working hard at this project for years, I am thrilled to give it life and introduce it here at my restaurant, Agave Tex Mex Grill."
